Boston United 2-2 Bury

York Street, Boston United 12/02/05

After the two recent home performances, morale was hopeful rather than expectant as we boarded the minibus heading for Lincolnshire. We had no traffic problems en route and made good time, arriving at 13.50. We drove into the main car park to park up, to be greeted with a steward who wasn’t having any of it. For the next 20 mins we were told conflicting advice of where we were to park. They eventually sorted us out, to the annoyance of all in the bus. After some light refreshment, we made our way into York Street. The game kicked off, the wind was blowing a gale and the pitch was boggy in places and we struggled to adapt. Boston didn’t struggle and through some good play from them and bad defending from us took a 2-0 lead after just 13mins. The away fans were far from happy and vented their frustration. Slowly we imposed ourselves on the game and after some good play down the right new loan signing Bas Savage was upended in the box resulting in a 36th-minute penalty. Left back Tom Kennedy stepped up and squeezed it into the corner. We all thought he’d missed! We made it to half time 2-1 behind. We came out in the second half with more purpose and after a good tackle in midfield by Savage, Flitcroft sent Newby through to beat Abbey and square the game at 2-2. We had several half chances to win the game but ultimately were happy with a draw, a great goal-line clearance from Murphy and some good defending all-round kept the game even. Having a big, strong centre forward in Savage gave us a solid look upfront and ultimately was the reason for the turn around. Bas Savage certainly impressed the travelling support and his name was sang many times! We left the ground, climbed back aboard the mini bus and had an uneventful journey back to Lancashire, arriving back at 8.30.
