The first game of the New Year was at Sincil Bank, Home of Lincoln City. Stu and Glenn set off from Walshaw at 10.00 and met the Disabled Minibus at Gigg Lane. We piled on the bus and left Gigg at 10.30. We picked someone up at Whitefield and joined the M60 at Prestwich. The traffic on the motorway was light and we joined the A1 and then the A57. We arrived in Lincoln at 1pm. It took another 20 mins or so to find the ground as it is hidden behind a main road. We parked up in the car park at 1.20. The group split up, some stayed in the van, some went to a pub for a drink and to watch the Liverpool-Chelsea game and some went to the chippy.
At 2.15 we made our way into the ground. At this point the weather was windy, but dry. At 2.55 the teams made their way out onto the pitch. A minute’s silence was impeccably respected by the near 4000 crowd and the game got under way. The weather turned, and blustery showers were continuous throughout the match. Lincoln started with their usual high ball game and the wind was not making conditions easy. The game was pretty scrappy, with neither side making clear-cut chances. On 24 minutes the wind caught a high ball and Danny Swailes misjudged it, falling over the Lincoln forward. The ball broke loose to Westcarr, who hit a fierce, low shot past Andy Marriott for the opening goal. Soon after, Bury had their chance to get back in the game, when from a brilliant reverse pass from Porter, Nugent was one on one with Alan Marriott. Unfortunately Marriott spread himself and Nugent hit it against his legs and the ball went to safety. Half time came and went and the game was relatively uneventful from now on, only a half chance from Nugent and some great interplay down the right through Whaley, Mattis and Nugent were of note, though nothing came from the final pass or cross. Lincoln had two goals ruled out for offside and the game ended 1-0. It was pouring with rain and we all got a bit wet walking back to the van. We made our way back to the A57 and got home just after 7pm.
Glenn.
