InToNet Mariners 1-4 Forever Bury

The weekend came around with the opportunity for both a new ground to visit, as well as a league game for the fans team. The day started with Stu getting up at 6.30am and making his way to Chairman John Rafs Gaf for a full English. We collected keeper Murray and made our way to meet the rest of the team at Gigg for 7.30am. After deciding on cars and directions, I jumped into Benty’s car with himself, Murray and Graham for the journey over the Pennines.

The journey was bearable with good music and Murray’s snoring amusing us and we arrived at a Morrison’s near Cleethorpes for Breakfast for the rest of the team. After all had arrived and eaten, and after a moment of confusion when we tried getting into the wrong car (they were identical, honest!) we were soon at Hereford school pitches.

We piled into the changing rooms and started getting kitted out. Manager Jimmy then started his team selection and revealed Stu was started right wing, opportunity for a rare forage up field perhaps?

We got out onto the pitch and started warming up, and then kicked off. Before Stu could get his second wind he had been brought down outside the box. The free kick was swung and headed downwards by Graham, directly into Stu’s path, and he lifted the ball over the oncoming keeper for a 1-0 lead and his first goal since October ‘04! A small celebration later and we were kicking off again.

The half went quickly but just before half time a cross by swung in, causing keeper Neil and defender MarkH to clash and the ball somehow made its way into the net. 1-1.

Half Time came around and Stu was staying on for the second half. The half started, and goals from Ant and Nev made it 3-1. two substitutions later, and Stu was still on the pitch before a fourth was added late on and the final whistle blew. Stu had completed 90mins and Bury had recorded their 14th win of the season.

We all got changed, laughed at the astonishment of absent striker Noel that Stu had scored and piled into the cars to get to Blundell Park.

We arrived, got a pint and some chips before getting into Blundell Park for 2.30pm.

The flag was already up, so Stu sat with Glenn and Mark and then the teams came out.

Despite a wonder goal from loan striker Jon Daly we fall to a 2-1 defeat and drop to a worrying 22nd in the league.

We all find our way back to the cars, before getting lost in Grimsby, and eventually finding the motorway. A brief stop at Hartshead and Stu gets home for 8pm.

Another ground to the list and we’re still on course for 60 before the end of the season!
