Walshaw Whites Guide to Away Travel:

No. 6. The Tube.

Full Size

This weekend the Stu and Glenn were invited to go down to Leyton Orient with Stu’s mate Bez, we duly accepted and he told us that he wanted to go on the tube.

So, we set off from home at 8am and travel over the M62 to Huddersfield to meet Bez. We swap cars and are soon on the M1 heading south. The journey passes fairly easily and we pull off at the services and head straight for Burger King. We have some overpriced rubbish and Bez phones the missus to check where we’re going.

We jump back on the M1 and drive further into London, pulling off at junction 4 and finding Stanmore tube station. We park up (£2 for the day, bargain!) and make our way into the station. We find the ticket machine and Bez hastily pushes a button and gets a £4 day ticket before realising that it didn’t go into the zone we wanted, and purchases a £6 day ticket as well. Whoops.

We figure out the scanner-ticket-thingy-majig and get on the jubilee line tube to Stratford. We travel along and suddenly see the new Wembley, this of course excites us all and we chat about England for a while. Some southern bloke hears what we are talking about and turns to his mate to discuss the same subject. “Yeah mate, easy draw, we’ve got Trinidad, Sweden and Belgium”.

Oh how we laughed at him when he got off.

We got to Bond Street and walked through the tunnels to get to the central line station. We jump on the central line tube to Loughton. This journey goes quickly and we are soon at Leyton station where we get off and follow some bloke’s directions to get to the pub. We have a swift coke and get into the ground for 2.30. The new stand is quite impressive although their executive meetings must be packed!

The flags go up and we take some photos of Bez pulling random faces with his flag.

The lads are awesome and we manage to pull off a 1-0 win, and continue out of the ground back to Leyton station speaking loudly about out win. I love annoying southerners.

We tube it back to Bond Street and then to Stanmore, get back in the car and head back up north. We stop briefly in Chesterfield services before getting back to Huddersfield for 9.30.

We swap back to Stu’s car and head back via Pizza Pioneer and some minger asking “do I look like Trisha Trollope?” (random!!)  to get home for motd.

Another interesting way to get to footy and we’d definitely do it again.

Toodles.
